**Duration:** September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027 (up to 2,008 hours; renewable for up to three additional one-year terms)
**Hours:** Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (excluding state holidays); occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

**Overview**
A Texas state agency is seeking a Cloud Data Migration Engineer to support the migration of Oracle workloads to AWS. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), full-load and Change Data Capture (CDC) architectures, and real-time streaming data ingestion. This role requires strong expertise in AWS infrastructure and networking, cloud-native services, Infrastructure as Code, and ETL/ELT processes. The position offers the opportunity to modernize legacy on-premises systems in a hybrid cloud environment while working on mission-critical data migration projects for a public-sector client.
The selected candidate will analyze business objectives and user requirements, identify alternative solutions, perform cost/benefit analyses, and develop detailed technical designs and migration runbooks. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams are essential.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Migrate Oracle workloads to AWS using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), supporting full-load, CDC, and real-time streaming architectures
- Design and implement AWS infrastructure and networking components, including VPCs, subnets, security groups, routing, VPNs, and Direct Connect
- Develop and execute data migration and cutover plans, including rollback strategies and approaches to minimize downtime
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation
- Configure and manage cloud network security, including VPNs, Direct Connect, and security groups
- Develop ETL/ELT processes and data integration methodologies for cloud migration projects
- Automate migration tasks using Python, Bash, or PowerShell scripting
- Monitor and log migration activities using AWS CloudWatch and CloudTrail
- Analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and determine input/output requirements
- Write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify systems
- Document technical designs, migration runbooks, and operational procedures
- Confer with organizational units to understand business objectives and technical requirements
- Review system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to assess feasibility of requested changes
**Required Qualifications**
- 8+ years of experience in IT, supporting the design, development, deployment, or delivery of technology solutions
- 8+ years of experience using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) to migrate data from Oracle to AWS
- 8+ years of experience with batch and real-time data ingestion, including full loads, Change Data Capture (CDC), and streaming architectures
- 8+ years of experience with AWS cloud services, specifically designing and implementing infrastructure and networking (VPC, subnets, security groups, routing)
- 8+ years of experience with core AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, Lambda) and infrastructure-as-code tools (CloudFormation or Terraform)
- 8+ years of experience with ETL/ELT processes and data integration methodologies in cloud migration projects
- 8+ years of experience with scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- 8+ years of experience configuring and managing cloud network security, including VPNs, Direct Connect, and security groups
- 8+ years of experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail)
- 8+ years of experience developing data migration and cutover plans, including rollback strategies and minimizing downtime
- 8+ years of excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including documenting technical designs and migration runbooks
- 8+ years of experience with hybrid cloud/on-premises connectivity and legacy system modernization
**Preferred Qualifications**
- 4+ years holding AWS certification(s) such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Database – Specialty
- 1+ year of experience working in public sector or state government environments
**Work Location & Requirements**
- Primary work location: Austin, Texas
- Hybrid position: 3 days remote, 2 days onsite (Monday and Thursday) – subject to change per hiring team
- Candidates must be local to the Austin area (within 50-mile radius) and currently reside in Texas
- May be required to work outside normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested
- All travel, per diem, parking, and living expenses are at the candidate's expense
- Must pass criminal background check
- Must sign Acceptable Use Agreement and Contractor Integrity Agreement as conditions of employment
