Job description
**Location:** Remote, U.S.-based
**Duration:** Contract / Freelance
**Hours:** Part-time to full-time, varies by competition phase
**Overview**
A public-sector client is seeking a freelance Technical Support Specialist to serve as the front-line technical contact for teams competing in a major government-sponsored autonomous robotics challenge. You will help competitors get their robotics solutions running in a simulation environment and on provided hardware—answering questions, troubleshooting issues, and keeping teams unblocked during active competition windows. This is a hands-on, customer-facing support role focused on troubleshooting containerized robotics systems and explaining technical fixes clearly under time pressure.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for competing teams in real time
- Help solvers get their systems running across Docker, ROS 2, Linux, and GPU environments
- Provide remote/SSH-based support and escalate to engineering when needed
**Required Qualifications**
- Docker & Docker Compose — building, deploying, and debugging containers
- ROS 2 — comfortable with nodes, topics, launch files, colcon builds, and reading ROS 2 logs
- Linux (Ubuntu) — confident on the command line
- GPU acceleration — working understanding of NVIDIA drivers, CUDA, and container GPU passthrough
- Git/GitHub and basic Bash/Python scripting
- Prior technical support / help desk experience, ideally in a software or robotics context
- Strong communicator who can turn complex issues into plain-language guidance
**Work Location & Requirements**
- U.S. citizen or U.S. resident, located in the United States
- Able to pass a U.S. government background check and be badged as a government contractor
- Remote work from within the United States
