Job description
**Location:** Remote (United States)
**Duration:** Project-based through Q1 2027
**Interview Mode:** Video or phone
**Overview**
Join an internal research interviewing team for a large-scale national study exploring what people value in their daily lives, challenges in their communities, concerns, and visions for the future. This is a listening role focused on conducting conversational, open-ended interviews with members of the public across the United States. Interviewers work under a research lead who handles protocol, quality review, and scheduling. The team supports two distinct interview streams: high-volume national public interviews and specialist interviews with professionals in observation-heavy roles such as local journalists, paramedics, and social workers.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Conduct remote interviews (video or phone) with participants across a wide range of ages, regions, income levels, and backgrounds, following a standardized question guide
- Ask open-ended questions and draw out long-form answers without leading, prompting, or inserting your own views
- Record sessions with participant consent and produce accurate, complete transcripts
- Log required metadata for every interview including participant region, demographic category, date, question mapping, and response traceability using the project tracker
- Follow the study's informed-consent script and all human-subjects research protocols exactly as written
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the study sponsor and follow a defined response protocol if participants ask who commissioned the research
- Flag data quality issues, incomplete sessions, or unusual responses to the research lead rather than resolving them independently
- Participate in onboarding training, calibration sessions, and periodic quality reviews of your recordings
- Meet weekly interview targets set with your research lead and adjusted to your availability
**Required Qualifications**
- Excellent spoken and written English, with a neutral, non-leading interviewing manner
- Demonstrated experience in interviewing, qualitative research, structured data collection, journalism, case management, intake work, oral history, market research, community outreach, or comparable settings where you asked people open-ended questions and documented their answers
- Strong written documentation skills and genuine accuracy in transcription and note-taking
- Ability to follow a research protocol precisely, without improvising the question set or the consent language
- Comfort building quick rapport with people from backgrounds different from your own, and discretion with sensitive or personal disclosures
- Willingness to complete human-subjects research ethics training (CITI or equivalent) during onboarding
- Legally authorized to work in the United States and based in the US
- Available across US time zones including some evenings and weekends when participants are available
- A quiet, private workspace and reliable internet capable of stable video calls and audio recording
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Prior work on an IRB-approved study, or familiarity with informed consent and participant confidentiality requirements
- Experience with federally funded or government-sponsored research
- Multilingual ability, particularly Spanish
- Experience recruiting or scheduling hard-to-reach participants
- Background in sociology, anthropology, public policy, communications, journalism, social work, public health, or a related field
- Familiarity with transcription tools and structured data entry
- Already-current human-subjects research ethics certification (CITI or equivalent)
**Work Location & Requirements**
- Fully remote within the United States
- Training, question guides, scheduling support, recording tools, and consent protocol are provided
- Interview volume concentrated in the middle of the project window
